Community HousingGreensboro is working to improve its residential neighborhoods through the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing. This citizen-led process provides technical assistance for Georgia cities in addressing residential challenges such as code-enforcement, beautification, aging infrastructure, and sub-standard housing. The process also helps to identify future housing needs and areas for growth and redevelopment. Greensboro was accepted into the GICH program in 2012 and formed the Greensboro Community Housing Team to take the lead in this process. Acceptance into the program is limited to just five cities each year.

The next step in Greensboro's revitalization will look outside of the commercial district and begin to work towards revitalization of the neighborhoods that surround downtown. Efforts to make Greensboro a community where a wide variety of people call home will ultimately improve the city as a whole. Healthy neighborhoods benefit the business community, provide for workforce housing, and reduce crime.
